Clean Truck Check Information

In December 2021, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved the implementation of the Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) Program, now known as Clean Truck Check. This program aims to uphold air quality standards by ensuring that heavy-duty vehicle emissions control systems operate effectively throughout the vehicle’s lifespan. Program requirements encompass registration in the Clean Truck Check database, compliance with per-vehicle fees, and regular testing.

CARB evaluates engine emissions to ensure that vehicles meet the state's strict emission standards. Notably, all heavy-duty trucks involved in transporting goods to and from California’s ports or rail yards, as well as refrigerator trucks operating anywhere in the state, must comply with CARB regulations. This measure aims to improve air quality and reduce the environmental impact of commercial transportation in California.
