A How to Guide on Washing a Dump Trailer
Dump trailers are some of the longest-lasting pieces of equipment on the market! That being said, if you’d like your trailer to last as long as it should, you’ll need to give your model a good scrub every once in a while. Not only will this reduce the likelihood of gummed-up parts and malfunctioning equipment, but it should also keep corrosion from deteriorating your dump trailer’s many metal surfaces. For straightforward instructions on how to wash your trailer—as well as a helpful list of suggested products—be sure to read our guide below.
Gather Tools and Supplies
Before you can start washing your dump trailer, you’ll first need to gather a few helpful tools and products. If your trailer has quite a large bed or high walls, we advise grabbing a long-handled scrub brush to make reaching high-up areas a bit easier. If possible, we also advise trying to get your hands on a helpful power washer tool, rather than a hose, to help remove built-up or grime. Finally, if your trailer isn’t too dirty, you’re welcome to grab a broom and a bottle of automotive soap and start scrubbing away. However, if you haven’t cleaned your dump trailer in quite a while, you may want to purchase a more powerful cleanser—such as a hydrofluoric acid—and a helpful wax designed to protect metal surfaces.
How to Clean Your Dump Trailer
Before you turn on your pressure washer or hose, be sure to first sweep out any trash or debris that’s piled up in your trailer’s bed. Once these items are removed, you’ll want to set to work spraying your dump trailer inside and out. If you were able to find a pressure washer, you should be able to use it to remove stubborn, stuck-on gunk. However, if you only have a hose, you may need to grab a small tool to scrap some of the grime away. If you purchased an acid to help deep clean your trailer, you’ll want to apply it now, before following up with your automotive soap and scrub brush. Once your trailer is looking shiny and new, you’re free to give it a quick rinse and allow it to dry in the sun. If you applied an acid, don’t forget to put on your wax with a soft towel or buffer tool once the dump trailer has completely dried.
