What Will You Haul?

To choose the right box truck, you should know what you want it to do. If you have some light-load deliveries to make, you can get a light-duty one, which will have a capacity of 8,500 lbs to 14,500 lbs. You get an estimated fuel economy of 12 mpg with these vehicles. For heavier loads, you’ll need medium-duty box trucks, which can hold from 15,000 to 33,000 lbs. Usually 18 to 26 feet in length, you get a fuel economy of 13 mpg. 

How Will You Load/Unload?

You’re going to be using your box truck to make deliveries, which means loading and unloading is going to be a big part of your business. With lighter loads, you may be able to get away with manual labor but if you have heavier and more frequent deliveries, you’ll need something to help you out. If you’ll be using a forklift, get a box truck that sits higher and has roll-up doors instead of swing-out ones. See if you’ll need a side door to make deliveries easier. Sometimes deliveries can be delayed; if you don’t have adequate lighting inside your truck, you may fumble around in the dark trying to drag the right package out. If you’re sure the deliveries will be made during the day or if the entire load has to go to one place, then you may not need interior lighting. A translucent roof can let enough light enter the truck for your needs. For anything else, we suggest you get proper lighting inside the box truck.
